As President of the Fashion Club, I worked with University of Portland's Students Against Sexual Assault Organization to put on a week-long interactive display to bring awareness about the concerning increasing victim statistics. I wanted to motivate institutional change from the university on the sexual assault reporting protocols and hoped to increase resources for survivors and improve the current education surrounding the topic. This event allowed me to use the universal nature of clothing to showcase how clothing is never an invitation for assault and is also not an excuse for the predator's behavior.
But this is me telling you, you are not a victim. You are not powerless. You are a survivor. I never wanted to be brave, I never wanted this to happen either, but I found that strength comes in many ways."
